Remaining Task Mission

Bishop Mgullu Kilimba is a coordinator of Dawn ministries in Tanzania. He travels all over the country of Tanzania, for training and empowering leaders. He is a man with passion for the lost and one of the key leaders in Tanzania.

Christian Mission Fellowship (Tanzania) has been working together with Dawm Ministries the main purpose is to see saturation church planting become a generally accepted and fervently practiced strategy for completing the task of making disciples of all peoples in our generation.

Remaining Task Mission is a ‘whole nation saturation church planting project’ under DAWN Ministries. Remaining Task Mission in partnership with DAWN Africa, completed the most extensive research of the church in Tanzania ever undertaken. Under the leadership of Bishop Mgullu Kilimba, 15 researchers and 300 field assistants, this comprehensive church survey was completed and printed by November 2005.

This 237-page document was presented on the 22nd November 2005 at a Congress attended by some 300 heads of denominations, bishops and leaders in Dar es Salaam. The Remaining Task is the first book ever for church planting in Tanzania. The book is available for sale at CMF headquarters, or you can order your copy through our website at reasonable price. Some startling discoveries were made:

The current number of churches is 21 039.
Tanzania needs 55 422 churches by 2010 to ensure that there is a church within every 1,000 people in urban areas and 500 in rural areas.
Since the year 2000 church planting has been in rapid decline.
77% of the population is located in rural areas.
Over 9 000 villages do not have a single Christian church!
The current annual church planting growth rate is 2.4%. If this rate remains unchanged, it will take 56 years to plant 55 422 churches!

This survey clearly depicts the neediest areas and serves as a handbook for every pastor and church planter. At the congress there was a sense of urgency as all the leaders felt the presence of Father’s heart for Tanzania. Those present spent time planning and collectively a goal was set to plant 21 000 churches by 2010. When the necessary funding is acquired, the National Task Force will take the challenge to the other regions until all 55 422 churches are pledged for. Funds were raised at the conference to print another 1 000 research manuals in Kiswahili.

The plan for 2006 is to share the research results in Vision Conferences across Tanzania in order that they can participate in setting goals. Danie Vermeulen will also do training on “Becoming a Church Planting Movement” with the denominational leaders and bishops.
